YDRI will hold a Special Election on Sunday, May 18 at 5pm at the Providence Fire Fighters, 92 Printery Street, Providence. All Board of Directors and Executive Officer positions will be voted on. Click to learn more about who is eligible to vote and run for office.
“Special” Election? What’s so special about it?
Back in January, President Kristina Fox and the Board called a Charter Convention to update the YDRI charter. One of the sections that was amended was section 5-1, which talks about the types of annual conventions we have and when they should occur. Basically, the Board voted to move the Campaign Convention to later in the year, but it didn’t seem cool to just extend everyone’s term, so we wrote in language calling for a Special Election in May. Every office will be up for re-election again later in 2014! But after that, the terms will be for a full year.
Oh ok, cool. What offices are we voting on?
Am I eligible to vote?
If you’re between 13 and 35 years of age, are current on your annual membership dues and have attended two YDRI events in the last 12 months, you can vote. We make it really easy too, because we count the election itself as one of the two events, and you can pay your dues on the spot.
Also, anyone eligible to vote is eligible to run for an office.
Oh yeah? Well I know someone who might be interested in running…
Unfortunately, nominations are now closed.
You seriously won't take any more nominations?
You can still nominate yourself or someone else on the day of the election, they would be a "write-in" candidate, so to speak. We were mainly just trying to get nominations ahead of time so we could print up some cool ballots.
What if I can’t be there in person on May 18? Can I still vote?
Unfortunately, no... we really wanted to do email ballots but we couldn't work out the logistics in time.
What if I have a question that you didn’t answer just now?
Email it to email@example.com!
Ok, will do. Thanks for your help.
You’re very welcome, but you’ll also want to thank the Providence Fire Fighters for letting us use their hall (again) and Jessica Stram from Young Democrats of Connecticut for coming out to chair our election!
